Ex-Florida Democratic Rep. Corrine Brown was sentenced to five years in prison and three years probation for mail, wire and tax fraud involving a sham charity.
She was a supporter of a charity that was supposed to collect money for scholarships for the children that cannot afford it, but actually was going to fill her pockets.
Allegedly, she used the money for personal purposes and lied it on her tax returns.
According to Washington Times:
She was convicted just after two ex-aides accepted plea deals in return for testifying against her.
“This crime was born of entitlement committed to supporting a lifestyle that was beyond their means,” Judge Timothy Corrigan stated.
Her aide and another official made a plea deal and gave Brown up, testifying against her at her trial.
From Fox News:
Couple of months earlier, One Door President Carla Wiley pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud after she had deposited $800,000 into the foundation’s account for years. During that time, according to federal prosecutors, it gave one scholarship for $1,000 and that Wiley herself transferred thousands of dollars.
Her ex-chief of staff, Elias “Ronnie” Simmons, as well as the charity’s president, pleaded guilty after their federal indictments for misusing the charity’s funds and testified against Brown, who tried to argue that she had no clue of what went on and blamed Simmons, but she was anyway convicted on 18 of 22 charges.
She had one priceless argument – she blamed the corruption charges, saying “I’m a black woman with a mouth.”
Brown had served in Congress for over two decades but lost last year after everyone found out about this.
Pretty despicable to use kids to line your own pocket. Shows that she’s pretty morally bankrupt.
Just imagine what could have she been doing for those two decades in Congress. The thought gives one pause.
