Charles Krauthammer is a highly respected conservative thinker and political commentator. This is what he had to say about the $400 million payment to Iran in exchange for the released prisoners:
“They had to print the money here and send it to Switzerland. Then, turn it into Swiss Francs and Euros and in the end ship it over to Iran. If a private company had done this, it would be considered money laundering and the CEO would definitely end up in jail. I’m not surprised that the Justice Department objected – this is an illegal action.”
Krauthammer is not the only one who feels that something’s wrong about this deal. Only four days after the money had arrived, four Americans were released from Iranian prisons.
Mullahs and military leaders in Iran are calling this money with its proper name —a ransom—but Obama’s story is quite different:
According to him, the $400 million payment was part of a $1.7 billion negotiated settlement from an aborted arms deal in 1979.
Some are comparing this to Iran-Contra, which almost derailed Ronald Reagan’s administration. For an administration that has constantly devaluated Americans, such as Obama’s, this is just another day at the office.
