There are rumors that Barbara Comstock can be defeated next year because her district failed to carry the president Trump by nearly 10 percent and that her vote against an Obamacare repeal was a sign that she was distancing herself from DJT.
All this came to an end when Comstock, Peter King, Raúl Labrador and Goodlatte introduced The Criminal Alien Gang Removal Act.
The president stated the following:
“We can eliminate MS-13 and root out the criminal cartels from America. We’re getting them out anyway, but we wouldn’t mind if we fasten the process.”
Two months ago, Comstock backed the president’s call for funding for police agencies combating gangs by introducing the Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant Program Authorization Act and is now supporting his call to secure faster deportation authority for illegal immigrants with gang ties.
To prevent already deported gang members from coming back, the bill ensures they are not eligible for immigration benefits. The only thing left is to see whether Trump will endorse Comstock in her re-election bid. Given the president’s unpopularity in the district, she may not want it.
Comstock has a “Trump score” of 95.3 and it is showcased on the website FiveThirtyEight. The score is based on the how often congressional members vote in favor of Trump’s agenda versus how often don’t and other metrics.
The El Salvadorian gang has been responsible for several deaths since the beginning of this year. Peter King is a sponsor of Comstock’s crime bill and he stated the following:
“We won’t tolerate innocent people in our communities being slaughtered, butchered and intimidated by criminals!”
